The Texans have completed an interview with Hines Ward for the head coaching position.

Ward is currently the Special Assistant to the Head Coach at Florida Atlantic University.

He previously was with the New York Jets as the wide receivers coach (2020) after being promoted from offensive assistant (2019).

Initially joining the team during 2019 training camp as part of the NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship program, Ward was hired before the start of the 2019 season as an offensive assistant.

He played in 217 games recording career totals of 12,083 receiving yards, 428 rushing yards, 86 touchdowns and five two-point conversions. In 2006, Pittsburgh captured their fifth Super Bowl title with Ward earning MVP honors after finishing the night with five receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown. The four-time Pro Bowler left his mark on the franchise, holding the Steelers record for receptions (1,000) and receiving yards (12,083).

At Georgia, Ward played quarterback, running back and wide receiver. With the Bulldogs, Ward completed 72 of 120 passes for 918 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed 204 times for 1,066 yards and five touchdowns and caught 144 passes for 1,965 yards and 11 scores. His 12 catches for 122 yards against Wisconsin in the 1998 Outback Bowl set a school record for the number of receptions in a bowl game.
